STA News!!! ANTI-RACISM

Being Anti-Racist

School Names and Mascots

You may have heard that Semiahmoo Secondary has officially changed its team name to the Thunderbirds as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts with Semiahmoo First Nation.

Are there other schools with names or mascots that need to be changed in the spirit of decolonization and reconciliation? Do you have concerns with your school's name or school’s mascot? Please contact Gavin Slade-Kerr at hs@surreyschools.ca to let us know.

STA Indigenous Resources

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

A heavy topic that everyone should be educated on. So here are some resources to help you out!

As you plan and approach this day, do your best to listen and learn from Indigenous voices, and create meaningful art with appreciation, not appropriation.

Remembrance Day done right!

Ask questions like who fought? Who was allowed to fight? Was anyone forced to fight? Did fighting for Canada let everyone be accepted by Canada?
